About this place
Tucked into a quiet corner of Shinkawa in Chuo Ward, Sushi Dai offers an intimate counter where guests can watch the chef's knife work up close. With limited seating, the understated dining room fosters an unhurried rhythm between diner and artisan.
The midday menu features lunch options like Tsubaki, which pairs 10 pieces of nigiri with 1 thin roll and miso soup, and Hiiragi, expanding the nigiri selection to 14 pieces. Seasonal choices might include rich, glistening sardine, tender simmered conger eel, delicate white fish, or glistening silver-skinned varieties, each prepared with meticulous detail. Gently seasoned shari and freshly grated wasabi set off the natural savor of the fish, while a slice of moist tamagoyaki brings a delicate, sweet note to the end of the meal.
In the evening, the kitchen turns to multi-course dining with the Seasonal Course and the extended Sushi Kaiseki Course, interweaving nigiri with appetizers, sashimi, grilled items, and warm dishes. The beverage list includes sake, beer, and wine, designed to complement seasonal small plates and grilled seafood before transitioning seamlessly to sushi. Given the modest number of seats, reservations are essential before planning an evening here.
